After the first week of the winter semester at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, there is still a peaceful situation in connection with the spread of coronavirus.
Classes began on September 21, 2020 according to the approved schedule. The study is carried out by combining full-time and distance forms of education. However, due to the development of the epidemic situation, all theoretical teaching (lectures, seminars) will be transformed into a distance form. Practical exercises in clinical workplaces and laboratories will continue to be full-time in small groups. All hygienic measures (drape, disinfection, spacing, shortened teaching hours) must be respected. We take advantage of the fact that part of the teaching in our special-purpose facilities (farms) can be carried out outdoors.
The Rector of UVMP Jana Mojžišová called on teachers to make maximum use of the first weeks of the semester to complete practical training. In the case of more stringent measures, they would no longer be possible. Completion of practical and clinical exercises is very important for students of veterinary medicine and pharmacy, as it is a regulated profession according to EU directives. A full transition to distance learning would cause serious problems.
All foreign students from high-risk countries had to take tests before starting school. Only one student from Malta, who did not even start teaching, had a positive test and is in domestic quarantine. Student was not in contact with other students or university staff.
The school and dormitories operate according to stricter rules. In the student dormitory, isolation rooms are prepared in case of sudden symptoms of the disease.
We ask everyone for strict adherence to the rules, responsibility and consideration.
